Week 5. And still so many choices to choose from. A bit of mixture of all this week.

NUMBER 10. Dies Mercurii I Martius - Hans Zimmer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaL7IQgSZcc

Because we've watched the series of films this week, I'm including another Da Vinci Code track. It's got a clip of Chevaliers de Sangreal, the beautiful strings as he tries to work out which orb is missing, along with the drama when he throws it in the air. Beautiful score. Hans Zimmer is a genius.
NUMBER 9.
Castle on the Hill - Ed Sheeran - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0ibBPhiaG0

So this week I sang along with Ed Sheeran to this, hence why it's in the top 10. I love the song anyway, because I do like quite a lot of Ed Sheeran's stuff (even that Justin Bieber one, I'm sorry) so why not add it in. The video is really cool too. It's quite difficult to sing as it goes quite low sometimes, but the chorus is where you can belt it out, and I feel like I nailed that...! Sing it with me! "I'm on my way... driving at ninety down those country lanes..."
NUMBER 8.
Did You Forget Who I Am - Steve Jablonsky - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjGFUUeKLLw

Optimus loves saying his own name, doesn't he? I... am Optimus Prime. He comes swooping in on a dragon, slides into an enemy and beheads all seven at once and says that line. Even if the movie was the one that ended it's run, I still love it when he says that. Steve Jablonsky did all the music for the Transformers movies, mixed in with various artists like Linkin Park - especially for the first two (What I've Done and New Divide) - and it works really well. This soundtrack was the only one not to have Linkin Park feature somewhere, but it's still epic all the same in my opinion. More Jablonsky stuff includes The Island, Deepwater Horizon and Bloodshot, among others, all also worth a watch.
NUMBER 7.
Variation 15 (Dunkirk) - Benjamin Wallfisch, Edward Elgar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUpvEgJEn94

Every time I watch this, I think to myself why doesn't he just turn the plane around and land on the Allied side? But then we wouldn't get the scene. After he bravely turns around and shoots down a dive bomber, as Edward Elgar's beautiful score blares through the IMAX speakers, you see Tom Hardy open up his cockpit and glide over those last few lines of men waiting to get onto the boats to sail back to England. It's emotional, and it's meant to be, because he has been the hero of the story, through and through, shooting down planes left, right and centre. But you can see the look in his eye as the score comes to an end and he's spotted the soldiers coming towards him. He's accepting it. He's saved hundreds of thousands... so they can have him.
NUMBER 6.
Learn Me Right - Birdie - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZXoiL89m_Q

It's the song that accompanies the final scene to the Pixar film Brave, watching all Merida' suitors leave as newly joined clans, as she speaks about how fate lives within us... and that you only have to be brave enough to see it. I really like this Pixar film. It isn't my favourite, and it isn't one of my favourite just because it's set in Scotland, but because of the story. It's a bond of family... and of course it's always nice when a princess doesn't need rescuing but rather the princess does the rescuing. Plus Angus, Merida's shire horse is seriously cute. Okay fine, maybe it might be my favourite.
NUMBER 5. Sunrise O’er Jurassic World - Michael Giacchino - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZWc8R_o8jc

Another park gone wrong. The last shot of the film is of the battle-weary T-Rex standing on top of the control tower, looking over her now-empty-of-people park and lets out an almighty roar. In the first movie I thought the T-Rex was terrifying. I had nightmares I think. But in this one, she saves the day. So I think she rightfully gets her time to roar in the sun. I was strangely impressed with the reboot to be honest. Yes, okay fine, it follows exactly the same plot line in that the dinosaurs get loose and havoc ensues, but it was different enough and had enough different angles for it to be different as well as similar. I mean how else can the story go...? But anyway. Let's hope this coronavirus doesn't delay the shooting of Jurassic World 3 for too long after it all calms down...
NUMBER 4. The Grid - Daft Punk - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBYr0k8dOtw

The soundtrack is hands down the best thing about this movie, plus the effects of when Sam makes it to the Grid. But the opening sequence to this movie is second to none other film. The camera sweeping angles, the music to go with it, as the lines you follow turn from 2D to 3D with buildings and streets gradually being created, as well as it all being narrated by Jeff Bridges... It sets the scene incredibly well. And the climax drop as the titles come into view... Best. Part. The movie itself is a bit so-so... Predictable. But the effects, the 'Game has Changed' scene with the light-cycle bikes (above) and the fact that Daft Punk do the soundtrack are what saves this movie for me. Bloody love Daft Punk.
NUMBER 3.
A Million Dreams - Ziv Zaifman, Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSQk-4fddDI

My favourite song of this movie. It's a great song for practicing your harmonies as well, which Josie and I do often. After the very show-y first song in the film, this song slows down and sets the scene nicely. PT Barnum was not actually a very nice man in real life, exploiting people with deformities or abnormalities, but hey, if it told the truth, no one would watch it right? Plus it does say 'loosely based' on PT Barnum's circus, so I think we can let them off. In any case, this one is my favourite of the soundtrack, as he sings about his dreams... and his dream comes true.
NUMBER 2.
One Last Night - Vaults - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDfrS-uvI0Q

I remember it being the favourite of the soundtrack at the time, and I like the lyrics to it. It's easily singable too. And it's one that is actually in my range!!! That's probably why I liked it so much...
NUMBER 1.
Run Free, Hans Zimmer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkoQlQMEsmM

This film still remains one of my favourite animated movies of all time. Not only is it about a horse... the movie speaks through it's music AND Spirit is voiced by my favourite actor of all time: Matt Damon. I know the lines from this movie backwards and will remember all the music in this until the day I die. But this one's my favourite. If this comes on my headphones I sit there and drum my fingers along to the dancing beat, made to sound like horse hooves... Best soundtrack ever. Again, Hans Zimmer is a genius.

They're mostly going to still be soundtracks, let's be honest, but I like to make it known that I do listen to the odd chart topper from time to time. Until next Sunday people!
