As promised, Episode 2 of Rachel's top 10 songs of week... Question is... have any changed?
And the answer is... Yes. They all have. And you can find them here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5uvGPB5HsOhdICfOxGVqDZ?si=afQmrqeyTzSwIzhp8Xsukw
Again, descending order, but they aren't ranked. It's just a number!
NUMBER 10.
The Longer I Run - Peter Bradley Adams - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLTbFaoZuVQ

One of songs where Rachel and Dex are lying, staring lovingly into each other's eyes on a rooftop, and the music is so beautiful! I love this song. I've heard it before (I think) before I saw the movie... But seeing as this was one of the MANY movies we watched this week, thanks to lockdown, I had to include it. Although it's a rom-com and annoys you at times because of the storyline, it is a good film... and it helps that the main character is called Rachel :p
NUMBER 9.
The Kyln Escape - Tyler Bates - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKIjsrUHWVo

I rewatched both Guardians of the Galaxies this week (see I told you I watched a load of films) and I love this track because it's the first time the team all work together. And at 1m33s, 3m20s and 5m42s you hear the Guardians theme and I absolutely love it. Josie isn't much of a fan of the Guardians films because they're 'too silly', but that's exactly why I like them. It's a group of people who meet by accident, who form a team, and who mainly just shout at each other. But they're hilarious, they do actually care and... I mean, they have Groot. Who is just AWESOME.
NUMBER 8.
8 Hours, Still No Rain - Hosini, Jones Meadow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEcgTHdVZ7Q

I heard this song at a friend's house a couple of weeks ago. I Soundclouded it immediately, and now it's been a constant play on my phone. I'm surprised it wasn't in last week's list actually. It's part of a chill out mix, and you can certainly hear why. The relaxing piano, the soothing voices... it makes it feel like it is raining, and that you're standing out in a relaxing rainstorm (despite the title). Thanks go to Karen and Lee for introducing me to this one. It'll be in the top 10s again, that's for sure.
NUMBER 7.
The Skye Boat Song (Appalachian Version) - Bear McCreary - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIbxAYhtddM

I love this programme. And I love the books. But I also love how the titles change depending on what's going on in the season / series. This one is Appalachian because the characters are in North Carolina (aka my spirit home). In Season 2 they have the Jacobite drums (pre-Culloden) and in early Season 2 it's French... because they're - you guessed it! - in France! The song is based off The Skye Boat Song, which is a late 19th century Scottish ballad recalling the journey of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Bencula to Skye as he evaded Government capture after his defeat at Culloden... Plus I've FINALLY started watching season 5... hence the Appalachian version.
NUMBER 6.
Down by the Salley Gardens - Emma Thompson - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VktmRdxlKYs

This film had me in tears. And I know that because my sister took a picture of me (man, do I look ugly when I cry). The words are beautiful anyway - a poem by WB Yeats - but Emma Thompson singing it... aw man it's bringing tears to my eyes even now. She first gets re-introduced to it when she meets young Adam Henry, a Jehovah's Witness boy with Leukaemia who is lying in hospital refusing a life-saving blood transfusion because it is against his faith, and they play the song together. The soundtrack uses parts of the song all the way through, like it's Adam and Fiona's theme... The poem because a connection between each other, and it's poignant and powerful that she sings the song as she hears the news that he's refusing treatment again. Word of warning though, if you watch this film (which you absolutely should) make sure you have a pack of tissues. Seriously.
NUMBER 5.
The Real Hero - Alan Silvestri - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMe8e5GcY0c

"Everybody wants a happy ending, right? But it doesn't always roll that way. Maybe this time..." No spoilers from me (because spoiling anything Marvel for me is a betrayal worse than any so I do the same for others) but the music in this is beautiful. God this song is actually giving me goosebumps. A scene where you're seeing all the world and heroes saved by just one, The Real Hero, and I think it's best explained by just listening to it. I Love You 3000.
NUMBER 4.
The Hawk - Jon Hopkins - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtjNGmHy_I8

In the music you can hear the hawk flying around, you can hear the freedom of the wind around it's wings and the noises of the fresh air all around it. In the film (and book), the hawk belongs to Eddie, a strange boy who has a connection with animals, and the hawk is what ultimately brings Daisy home to him. Sitting with no hope, having lost the map they needed, she sees the hawk and she guides her home.
NUMBER 3.
Paradise - George Ezra - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOwihbur34E

Heard for the first time in ages on Joe Wicks' #PEwithJoe workout this week, I love the beat and the repetition of it, and just how much of a feel-good tune it really is. Paradise, roll on, roll on. Meet me there, roll on, roll on. I could quite happily listen to this song on repeat. Entirely singable, you instantly catch the tune and you can't help but tap your foot or dance like a loon. Or is that last one just me?
NUMBER 2.
I'm Still Standing - Elton John - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHwVBirqD2s

Well, did you know that Strictly's Bruno is in this music video? Because I didn't! This song is an anthem for when Elton John turned his life around, and the lyrics 'I'm Still Standing' show how he's come out the other side, after such a turbulent life of fashion, sex, drugs and booze. But what a tune it is. And definitely my favourite Elton John song.
NUMBER 1.
Superheroes - The Script - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIm1GgfRz6M

This is my throwback of the week. I can't remember how the song came on, the radio maybe, but it threw me straight back to 2014. Ah what a year that was. I went back to America, I started working and I officially became an adult.
So folks, that's the end of week 2... and I hope you enjoy these as much as I do! Remember you can listen to all of these on my playlist at this link: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5uvGPB5HsOhdICfOxGVqDZ?si=afQmrqeyTzSwIzhp8Xsukw
