Well would you look at that. You blink and you’re already a week into the month of June? Wowza.
Now I feel like I wasn’t updating enough for May’s post - but I’ll have to play the work card again, because it really was one of the busiest months I have ever experienced. Apparently all the news and all the projects needed to be out in May... who knew.
But I got some great news in terms of my qualification this month too. After bricking it about whether or not I would even pass my exam, it seems I passed with distinction! So that was great news to get :) I’ve always been crap at exams, but apparently I need to have a bit more faith in myself that I can actually do it! I popped it on LinkedIn and got lots of great comments from colleagues and friends, so I’m feeling the love!
What else happened in May? I feel like a lot has happened and I can’t really tell you what that is because it was so long ago.
Oh yeah... The world opened up! :) I’ve been out to dinner - sitting both outside and inside once restrictions eased - and man does it feel good. I went to BBQs at people’s houses (well, 1 BBQ) and randomly bumped into another friend who lives 2 roads over! I’ve celebrated a friend who is having a baby soon, laughed with everybody and it’s just been so nice to be able to see people. I forgot how much I love it. I went to Southampton, twice - once to see THE BIGGEST SHIP I HAVE EVER SEEN and once to recce some filming that’s taking place in August - and it was good to get out to the ports too. Hoping to do a bit more of that over the next few months!
And last but CERTAINLY not least... I WENT TO THE CINEMA! TWICE! Aw man, you have no idea how good it felt to be in a dark, air-conditioned room with a bunch of strangers watching movies again. And although you have to wear a mask the entire time - bit annoying, especially as its summer - but if it means the cinemas can stay open for good now, then I don’t mind.
I’ve seen 2 so far: Godzilla vs Kong (Yes, I know - but there is a reason you wait to see the monster movies in the cinema, because this was truly EPIC) and Cruella (which I‘d like to see again because we had a baby (yes, a baby) crying for most of the last hour so didn’t catch some of it due to my frustration) but I am very much looking forward to seeing more as the cinemas start releasing more films!
But anyway... let‘s look at June in terms of the Physical and Mental health.
PHYSICAL HEALTH - JUNE EDITION
In terms of fitness this month, I have been really bad. I did a 10k at the beginning of May - 1h23m - and have been doing 5ks once a week - with a work 5k challenge competition– but I need to do more. I was doing really well with Courtney Black, but the problem now is that by the time we do them, the sun is streaming through our window, making the flat really hot, which makes any form of exercise basically unbearable. So I need to pick that up again. There’s still time to do the 28 day challenges - as you can start them whenever you want, as they’re on her app - so once things get a little less hectic, I can find the time. At the moment, its difficult to find the motivation to do exercise when you‘re finishing at 7... and the lure of the TV and sofa just is too good to ignore most days.
So that’s one - do more CB workouts. The other is walking. I’m taking part in the Big Hike for Cancer Research in September, so the plan is to get out and do a long walk most weekends now, gearing for the big 26-miler on September 18th. So more walks. I’m walking home from the office whenever I can - which is about 6.5 miles– so that should help!
MENTAL HEALTH - JUNE EDITION
I’m bringing back the 1 photo a day. I like that one. It’s slightly easier to manage because I take so many pictures, and I’ve got some great pictures already for June, given we are now 7 days in! Pictures make me feel happy... so please enjoy 30 of June’s greatest ones, which can actually include people... because we can now see people!
What I will also be bringing back more regularly are the music playlists. I haven’t done one for the entirety of May because it’s been so busy, but they’re so enjoyable to do, this has to change! Plus with more films coming out, it means more soundtracks!
