Yet another eclectic mix for you this week. And now that we're locked down again, with a bit more free writing time, I'm going to try not to neglect these as they're as fun to write as I hope they are to read.

Over the last several weeks a LOT has happened in everyone's lives, and the world is very much a tumultuous one. So here are some favourites I'd queued nearly two months ago, but am still listening to now...

NUMBER 10.

The Hero Within - James Paget

My sister sent this to me to listen to. I listened to it a lot at the time as it has a calming amount of repetition in it, whilst being epic and upbeat as well. She knew I'd like it. I didn't listen to it again until I started this week's musical playlist, and when I played it out loud, Josie forgot she'd recommended it to me and has been playing it out loud all the time too.

NUMBER 9.

Autobots Reunite - Steve Jablonsky

After 'Scorponok', this track is the best Transformers track, and it's GREAT in the car with the speakers turned up loud and you have something to drum along to. You can hear the beat, you can hear the pace and if you listen carefully, you can hear Optimus shouting, "Calling all Autobots." It's when Optimus transforms himself back into a modern truck when he'd been forced to hide out as a rust bucket. It sounds silly when I type it, but trust me. It's awesome.

NUMBER 8.

The Mandalorian - Ludwig Goransson

I mean can you blame me for this one? The second season was released last week and there's only been one more episode and it's frickin' amazing. And not just because of Baby Yoda. And I don't really know how else to describe the soundtrack other than it just fits.

Also...

NUMBER 7.

The Barn - Deborah Lurie

Dear John is probably my favourite Nicholas Sparks film, and probably my favourite Nick Sparks book. The film was really true to the story, and Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried were exactly who I had in mind for John and Savannah when I read it. But the music is so soft and playful that it tells their story just as the script does. I've chosen a Dear John track before, and don't be surprised there will be more.

NUMBER 6.

Charlie Trains Atom - Danny Elfman

Robot boxing? A strange but entertaining premise because it's not people getting punched to the point their faces become unrecognisable. In this scene, Charlie (Hugh Jackman) and Atom are training, and as Atom has a shadow function, he's doing exactly what Charlie's doing. He even tenses his sore shoulders at the end...

NUMBER 5.

Spacewalk - Thomas Newman

The track is supposed to invoke wonder, just like what the characters are feeling. They're tethered to the spaceship and looking out at the vast world outside, and as they experience their new surroundings, all they see is beauty. And that's what you hear in the music too.

NUMBER 4.

Defeating Rango - Mark Isham

Rango is Luke's Everest to climb. He's the reason Luke puts his life in his hands every time he rides bulls, and as the scene goes into slow motion as Luke faces his fears, you can both really hear and see just how terrifying it is. The track has three parts. First part: dread and trepidation. Second part: the eight second ride. Third part: accomplishment and realisation, that because now that he's faced his ultimate fear, he can finally let everything go and be with the person he loves most.

On finding this picture, I actually found out that the bull that played Rango in the film - also called Rango - passed away in 2014. He had an 84% buck-off rate, which is one the biggest in PBR history.

NUMBER 3.

What's Happening To Me - Thomas Bergensen, Two Steps From Hell

One of the tracks that's on mine and Josie's travel playlist, and probably my favourite track on this album y Two Steps From Hell. I got introduced to them when I was singing, and even though there may not be much of a voice incorporated, I still sing along.

NUMBER 2.

What's Next - John Paesano

This track is right at the end of the film, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. It comes after the goodies have suffered a major loss, and the track quite literally makes you think... What's Next? I loved these films. Apart from a few minor details, the film was very true to the book, and Dylan O'Brien was an amazing choice for Thomas. After seeing him in Teen Wolf, I knew he could do anything after he was Void Stiles, but bringing one of my favourite dystopian book characters to life was incredible.

NUMBER 1.

Superman - Blake Neely

Who knew Tyler Hoechlin would be the Superman everyone had wanted? I certainly didn't! When he was cast, I was a bit skeptical, but seeing this episode (accompanied by the fanfare of trumpets) he actually did okay! Now he isn't Henry Cavill... but then again... there's no one that can beat Henry Cavill as Superman for me, even if that is an unpopular opinion.

***

I really missed writing about how all these tracks make me feel. And it's so therapeutic to listen through favourites... :D
