It's been a busy week and a day at work and over the weekend with an injured sister and cakes to bake, so I've barely had any time for blog... so let's make up for it with this week's top 10!

We're back to my music this week, but stay tuned because I might have another guest next week!

So what are this week's top 10s? Ha! Yep, you guessed it, back to those melodic movie soundtracks...

NUMBER 10.

Lockdown - Steve Jablonsky

I'm not ashamed to say I quite like these movies. Yes okay, they may have their blips (ahem, Revenge of the Fallen) and usually with the loss of not one but two leads, the franchise may flop... but I quite liked Transformers 4, aka Transformers: Age of Extinction. And I don't know about anyone else but I think Mark Wahlberg is a worthy replacement for Shia LaBeouf... even if he doesn't quite have that Witwicky Charm. But this song is one of my favourites from the score. And it has a very apt name of Lockdown... This particular big bad robot scares even the toughest Autobot and he's been charged with bringing Optimus to meet his maker... literally.

NUMBER 9.

Making Amends - Henry Jackman

I like the Civil War soundtrack. And even though it's composed by the same composer who did Winter Soldier, I like that you can hear both the similarities and the differences between the two. And I don't know why people hate on this soundtrack. I love the horns, the gradual build from the strings, and you just know it's gearing up to something... In this case the airport battle. The airport fight scene between Team Cap and Team Iron Man is the longest fight sequence in any MCU film, and I think this track is a great prelude to it.

NUMBER 8.

Memories - Danny Elfman

It's the last song of the movie. Black Beauty is ending his story, lying happy as he eats a pile of oats and grass, back to full strength and spirits, and he's remembering his time with his friends, all together at Birtwick Park. This shot (above) is the last shot of the movie: Black Beauty's reflection in the water. A beautiful end to an emotional rollercoaster of a kid's film (and book) that always brings me to happy tears.

NUMBER 7.

Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO

I love this song. Each time I have a clear out of my 'randoms' playlist on Spotify, I can never bring myself to take this one out. And listening to it now, I still don't know why I like it so much. I like the beat I think, and maybe because I like to think I can dance like this. I'm listening now and my feet are moving to the beat... The music video is ridiculous too. And I suppose now that the shuffle is cool again - thank you Tik Tok - everyday we shuffling...

NUMBER 6.

Pink Elephants on Parade - Disney Studio Chorus

Dumbo is probably my favourite original Disney. And this is my favourite Disney song ever I think. My sister and I know all the trumpet bits and walk around the flat to the music. Yes we're that sad. It's the best bit of the movie, and I was so sad when they took it out of the new movie which came out a couple of years ago... or rather they replaced it (the pink elephants are technically still there, just not the song). At Disney's shortest film, Dumbo is just over an hour, and despite being pegged to be one of Disney's greatest films of the era, unfortunately World War Two got in the way. But it's still a great movie, and one I revisit every time I hear this song.

NUMBER 5.

Awake My Soul - Mumford & Sons

Last week Josie had a Mumford song... so this week I have one. My favourite Mumford song. I don't have any reason why I've added it, I just remembered how much I loved it!

NUMBER 4.

Run - Awolnation

Thank you Tik Tok again for this one. A tiny snippet of this song is used in Tik Tok videos globally, and I was surprised to find the rest of the song wasn't bad either.

NUMBER 3.

Rush Orchestra Suite Live - Hans Zimmer

I went to go see Hans Zimmer live last year with some friends and this score stood out to me big time. Before you hear the song, Zimmer was talking with Ron Howard about big cars, big engines and epic rain, and I wondered what film he was talking about. But as soon as the strings came to life, I knew exactly what film it was. Rush. And you really can hear the cars in the soundtrack... especially when the music starts to build with the cello at just over a minute in. The rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda is an incredible story, especially when you find out Lauda was on his death bed, and then was back to racing when the burn scars were still fresh. Definitely time for a rewatch... so just need to convince Josie.

NUMBER 2.

Wicked Game - Ursine Vulpine

I've heard the original of this song loads of times before but I heard this version in the credits of the Rugby World Cup last year, after South Africa beat us in the final. And it really was a Wicked Game. After we played so well against the All Blacks in the semi-final, I thought (as well as everyone else) we would have it in the bag. But sadly not... Bring on the 2023 World Cup. Let's just hope sport is still played then. I miss it.

NUMBER 1.

Star Wars and the Revenge of the Sith - John Williams

This is my favourite Star Wars opening sequence. After the title scrawl, you're thrown straight into the Battle of Coruscant, following Obi-Wan and Anakin as they fight their way through to Chancellor Palpatine. I know the tune to this by heart, and it will remain my favourite post-scrawl scene, even if Revenge of the Sith isn't my favourite Star Wars film.

Again, the link is here, should you wish! See you again next week!
