So this week I turned to my mum for her playlist (well, actually I turned to her last week but things got extremely busy) so here we are!
Whenever I'm in a car with my parents, I commandeer the stereo, but after the two playlists I've had from them, I think I need to start letting them have control from time to time... These ones are pretty good. And I'm not just saying that because Mum chose me for one of them... I quote, "Tried Leonard Cohen, but preferred you!"
I enjoyed these 10... so please listen to the playlist below to find them yourself!
NUMBER 10.
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac

A catchy sing-along tune that has been remade soooooooooo many times. But this one is my favourite version by far.
NUMBER 9.
(Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams

I love that this is a love ballad for Robin Hood. And despite loving the BBC series' Robin Hood, Jonas Armstong, there is something muy guapo about Kevin Costner in period costume.
NUMBER 8.
Proud - Heather Small

I have literally only listened to this song and Heather Small's voice is so smooth, powerful and amazing. And on this album (not the right album cover above unfortunately) but it doesn't surprise me that she's collaborated with Tom Jones. She's amazing.
NUMBER 7.
Perfect Day - Lou Reed

This song always reminds me of my uncle. I only met him a handful of times - my dad's twin bro - and he could NOT have been more opposite to my dad. But anyway, Dad told me this song was played at his funeral... and even if it was played at his funeral, it still makes me think of the long-haired motorbike-riding uncle who bought me a small-adult-sized Simba... and broke Josie's Barbie hairband.
NUMBER 6.
Hallelujah - Rachel Pennicott - https://www.smule.com/recording/hallelujah-hallelujah-alexandra-burke-alexandra-burke/2386073965_3502691680

When I first got Smule, I sang Hallelujah and sent it to my family... and now my mum is listing it as one of her favourites. I'm not going as far as to say my head's going to grow big, but knowing that my mum believes in me is everything... and when she sent me her list, my smile was bigger than the one in this picture!
NUMBER 5.
(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding

I've definitely heard this one in a movie or two. And I could listen to it all day.
NUMBER 4.
Dreamer - Supertramp

Well this one screams 70s... with synthesised voices, and I love it!
NUMBER 3.
A Thousand Years - The Piano Guys

I've only really ever heard this with the voice of Christina Perri, but I have to say it sounds even more beautiful without any of the lyrics. Piano and cello always go so beautifully together and this version of A Thousand Years is my favourite.
NUMBER 2.
Blue - Joni Mitchell

It's quite a sad song... but then again I've only ever heard Joni Mitchell when accompanied by Emma Thompson's tears in Love Actually. The lyrics are out there... and all over the place but she makes sense in saying there is blue in all of us...
NUMBER 1.
Love - The Blues Brothers

And a jolly song to end with. This is catchy from beginning to end and I can imagine seeing this video live is exactly what I'm imagining.

A small insight into my mum's musical mind...
I'm back to my own mind next week - whether it will be themed or not, I'm not sure, but I know I've listened to tons more through lockdown than I ever have... and I'm planning to share many more playlists to come!
And remember you can find the playlist here... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5uvGPB5HsOhdICfOxGVqDZ?si=MfkYR_LUS9K8-HyvsrVdYA
