Every week I'm going to put my top 10 favourite songs and you can judge me for it... :) You can also find it here: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5uvGPB5HsOhdICfOxGVqDZ?si=XW7zJqUZRfGhp5hFDhSGjQ Some might repeat... but meh. Most will change!
I don't pay attention to the hip charts usually (never actually) and the kind of music I love is ALL in films. Even when they're not classical or a film score, chances are I've heard in a film and I've waited all the way to the end of the credits to find out what it is. Unless I hear it at the gym, in which case it's just beaty and helps me motivate myself to run faster. (As much as anyone loves soundtracks, they're not great workout tracks).
So here it is... My first top 10 songs. And they're in no particular order. Before people start asking why Led Zeppelin is at number 10.
NUMBER 10.
The Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8OtzJtp-EM

You guessed it. Yep, heard it in a Marvel film (although before people start judging me further, I did know about this way before Thor made it even more famous...) Thanks go to Papa P for my love of this one.
NUMBER 9.
A Miraculous Return - Rupert Gregson-Williams - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQAkrlBdNc4

So I actually heard this for the first time on The Grand Tour, but the original is from the movie masterpiece that is Hacksaw Ridge. Another one to listen to is One Man At A Time from the same soundtrack. The Gregson-Williams are geniuses.
NUMBER 8.
Sub Lift - Henry Jackman - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6a4TFdlPAU

When Magneto truly harnesses his powers. Just awesome. Henry Jackman. Also a genius. He also composed the soundtrack for Captain America: Civil War and Kingsman: The Golden Circle btw.
NUMBER 7.
High on Life (feat. Bonn) - Martin Garrix - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpjcm1F8tY8

Josie was listening to this during a workout the other day and it kind of rings out for what's going on at the moment. Being high on life... A million miles just to see your smile... I like that.
NUMBER 6.
The Lake Kiss - Justin Caine Burnett - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRnET3F3LMY

May as well get it over with. Hello, my name's Rachel and I'm addicted to After. It's one of the few scenes from the book they actually kind of kept the same, and I think Hero and Josephine did it so well. The use of the soft piano and the soft undertone of a voice really show the connection between the two, and even without watching the clip, you can still feel the connection in the music too. Just love it.
NUMBER 5.
Main Titles (Never Let Me Go) - Rachel Portman - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUPy2Pis4hA

This is probably one of the weirdest films I've watched. The premise of clones being grown and harvested for their organs whilst trying to maintain a semblance of a normal life... The eerie use of the pianos against the lovely symphonic use of the strings go hand in hand with the story, and it's so powerful and beautiful at the same time.
NUMBER 4.
Aggressive Expansion - Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAOq0OOHLrQ

In the words of Hans Zimmer himself with those EPIC horns in the Dark Knight soundtrack, "Two notes... but the amount of expressiveness brought into them..." You couldn't have asked for a greater composer for this film. Because, let's be honest, this film is what all future Batman films will be yard-sticked against. No one will ever come close. And that's, in part, because of how amazing this soundtrack is.
NUMBER 3.
Back in Black - AC/DC - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAgnJDJN4VA

I love that AC/DC is basically the soundtrack to Iron Man. Again, I'd heard this one before Iron Man used it, but it is the most epic song and quite simply the best I think.
NUMBER 2.
Dueling Guitars - Heitor Pereira, Doug Smith - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2K5IcpZEU4

God I actually love this film. It's about a child who is born from two musicians and is basically a child prodigy at music. He hears music in everything and the soundtrack uses it so well. He teaches himself guitar and here he's (unknowingly) playing with his father; Dueling Guitars. What I'd give to be able to play the guitar like that. You can't not drum your fingers along either.
And last but definitely NOT least. Like I said, these are in no particular order!
NUMBER 1.
Bad Liar - Imagine Dragons - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-QfPUz1es8

This isn't from a film. It could be, because I found it in the Hardin playlist by Anna Todd (another After reference, sorry people) and I actually LOVE it. I love that it's easily singable, and 'Trust Me Darling' you'll love it too. Fingers crossed it's in After We Collided!
Rachel's Top 10 for week commencing 23 March... and you know what? I'm going to listen to them all once more before I go to bed :). And if you want to follow this playlist (which will change weekly) you can follow the link to my Spotify playlist up the top...!
I wish there were more slots, because there were so many more songs that deserved to be the top 10. But they might make it to next week's so stay tuned!
