They're back! I'm back! The music playlists are back, and I have so much good music for you to enjoy :D Two weeks of me and then a couple of guest appearances.
I've got excuses though I promise. I've had a couple of mini break weekends, getting out of the house, and despite having music-filled weekends, I've been too tired to do anything more than settle in front of the TV with an episode of Downton.
But without further adieu... Here is this week's musical playlist :D and remember you can find it here on my Spotify. Please follow it (along with the top 10s from previous weeks) to keep seeing an insight into my musical mind... https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5uvGPB5HsOhdICfOxGVqDZ?si=WEkXtabbQhueX0y5ypUPBw
NUMBER 10.
First Class - Henry Jackman

The X-Men reboot we were all waiting for. Or what I was waiting for really. A chance to see what Erik Lensherr and Charles Xavier were like when they were (kind of) whippersnappers and how their relationship became quite so testy. Charles out of the wheelchair too, as well as loads of new, young heroes to meet. A series of composers have scored the X-Men films, including John Ottman (who did the Superman Returns score I love so much) but Henry Jackman's stuff is pretty good, and a league above the soundtracks to the earlier films. It's electronic and throughout the score you can just hear how the music compliments the film. Although this one isn't my favourite from the album, it's the first song you hear on the album, and it sets the scene incredibly well.
NUMBER 9.
Wakanda - Ludwig Goransson, Baaba Maal

Despite not being the opening music to Black Panther, it stands out so beautifully to me. Here, the Wakandan ship is flying over Wakanda, following vast and beautiful countryside as the melodic voice and drums complement. And when the music builds, the ship pierces through the wall to the Wakandan citadel and we're met with modernity and the most impressive and vibrant city, a marked contrast to the plains we'd seen moments before. Man, I wish Wakanda was a real place.
NUMBER 8.
Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen

Please don't ask why this is in the playlist this week. It came on the radio and now it's in my head. Sometimes I listen to a song to get it out of my head, but it doesn't seem to work with this head-niggler. So I apologise if this is your head now. I wonder what happened to her... haven't heard any of her songs in a while.
NUMBER 7.
Warcraft - Ramin Djawadi

Unfortunately this is the high point of the movie for me, and it's the opening title. The film was okay, but I didn't really understand it enough to know what was going on. I went to the cinema to see with a Warcraft fan, so she was explaining, but meh. I like this song. It starts with the titles and gradually goes into the troll world (see guy above) before some other magical stuff happens. If you like World of Warcraft the game, I think you'll be disappointed with the film but if you're not then it's okay. It has Travis Fimmel in it which was a high point for me to be honest.
NUMBER 6.
I Like The Way - Bodyrockers

I first heard this song in a car advert, and it screams car advert really. But Josie's PT guy played this on their session a couple of weeks ago so I had to add it. Music in workouts is important, and I've got this one in my running playlist. My stamina is rubbish so I can't run for too long but this one certainly gets the blood pumping once you're on a roll!
NUMBER 5.
He Who Brings The Night - Two Steps From Hell

Two Steps From Hell are amazing. I'm saying that now. I've come across them loads through the years but I moved away from them for a while before revisiting them when I joined the choir at the London Film Music Orchestra. The electric music, the guitar, the voices, the pace and how every single song sounds completely different just blows me away. I know this picture isn't anything to do with the album but when you google it you get this cool concept art of what I think is a Ringwraith from Lord of the Rings, so I put it here.
NUMBER 4.
You Will Be This Legend - Really Slow Motion

This song was in my Daily Mix a couple of weeks ago and it's now a permanent features to the space between my ears. I love how it builds with the voice and I really hope we'll able to perform this with the orchestra again. I really love it.
NUMBER 3.
Someone To You - Banners

It's another After one, I'm sorry. Don't worry I'll run out of songs to use soon enough. But I'm not sorry about this one. Banners is an amazing band, and I love their sound and even if it wasn't in After I would have found it eventually. It's a montage scene of Hardin and Tessa together and if you know the story the words just fit in so well, and I absolutely see how they came to use it in the film.
NUMBER 2.
Light Me Up - Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid Michaelson's voice is amazing. I can't say much more than that. She goes from soft to belting in literally a single breath and the soft piano that builds as she does is beautiful. Plus how AMAZING is this cover art???? LOVE.
NUMBER 1.
Bailey - Rachel Portman

"My name is... Bailey, Bailey, Bailey, Bailey." This film is so cute. But so saaaaaad at the same time. Animal movies are always emotional for me, and this one hits hard. But it's super cute. And the soundtrack is bright and bubbly, just like the star of the show.
***

I've missed these playlists. They're a lot of work but they're a lot of fun too. And I hope you enjoy these ones.
Remember the playlist is up the top, and keep your eyes peeled for next week's, which I PROMISE is coming next week and not next month!!
