I haven't forgotten about my weekly music updates, don't worry... it's just been a bit busy for me recently with trying to finish my book (the last part will be published on Sunday!!!!!!!) and work stuff, so apologies for the lack of musical updates.
But never fear... your friendly neighbourhood soundtrack nerd is here... and with ten new tracks!
The last few weeks I've paid more attention to the Daily Mix Spotify makes for you and, let me tell you, they've thrown up some BEAUTIFUL tunes which I hadn't thought to add to my musical library. I've seen the films but never thought about the soundtracks...
As usual, the playlist can be found here on my Spotify, along with a playlist of the tracks I've already chosen, and I hope you like these new additions.
NUMBER 10.
A Game of Strategy - Steven Price

I love nature programmes, and when I've watched them previously it never really occurred to me that the soundtracks would be available. I paid attention to the Planet Earth and Blue Planet soundtracks because they're scored by Hans Zimmer's protege Jacob Shea, but this one stood out in my Daily Mix 2 last week. You can almost hear the chase happening, the cheetah making it's calculations, trying to work out which way to go as well as what way the antelope will go. The grace in the music is beautiful and it makes me wonder who came out on top...
NUMBER 9.
Can't Take It In - Imogen Heap

Okay I admit this one wasn't in my Daily Mix. Our most recent marathon has been the Narnia films, and the credit song to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is this one by Imogen Heap and it's beautiful. Since hearing Hide and Seek on The OC all those years ago, I've been hooked on her songs. She features in so many things, and every time I hear her sing I can't skip the track.
NUMBER 8.
Taking A Stand - Henry Jackman

A Marvel one! First one in a while... I've listened to quite a few artists copies of this but you can never beat the original... Loads of people aren't necessarily fans of Captain America: Winter Soldier, but I absolutely loved it. Cap adjusting to the real world still, introduction of Falcon and the 'With you to the end of the line' friendship going with Bucky... It has it all!
NUMBER 7.
Opening Titles - Michael Brook

I love this story. It's a story that's filled with love - family, friendship and firsts - and the music really shows it. With the Irish violin as well, the Gaelic twang, telling of the young Irish girl falling in love with the Brooklyn boy, it tells of a beautiful story to come.
NUMBER 6.
Secret Religion - BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra

I need to watch this series... I love everything about the luscious green landscapes of Scotland and this one came up on my Daily Mix the other day and it's already in my top 25 most played - which maybe gives you an insight into how I get obsessed over various tracks. It has bagpipes, it has pipes and drums, it has Gaelic voices... Scottish music embodied in one song.
NUMBER 5.
Superman - Joe Brooks

I'm in a Superman mood at the moment. I'm halfway through my rewatch of THE BEST superhero series on TV and I couldn't not include a reference to him. Tom Welling is my Superman, and he always will be, and it's been so fun rewatching all the fun I had watching it through my teens. Smallville helped me through my GCSEs and A-Levels... and Superman really is the best. Sorry other superheroes! Also Tom Welling... *drools*
NUMBER 4.
Start of Time - Gabrielle Aplin

I watched Teen Wolf too (what can I say I've had a lot of time to watch programmes whilst I wait for my sister to finish working) and this song always sticks out for me because it's the start of the greatest pairing on the programme. Stiles has a panic attack, and Lydia realises the only way to help get them back is to kiss them... you stop breathing and therefore end of panic attack (if anyone needs any tips). But at the same time I think she realises how she feels for the bumbling adorable idiot that is Stiles. We all love him too though.
NUMBER 3.
I'm Still Here - John Rzenik

Hands up if you knew Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the voice of Jim Hawkins before you saw this? *my hand flies up* And despite being a film from 2002, Jim is sporting the sorts of haircuts the boys all had last year, topknot and plait and all. It's got a typical Disney vibe, but I haven't heard this song in years so I'm glad my Daily Mix brought it back to me. Might have to rewatch the movie too.
NUMBER 2.
Style - Taylor Swift

This album's probably the only one where I like pretty much all the songs on it... but I have to say this is my favourite and that's for the beat alone. TSwizzle is a bit hit and miss for me, but this one was definitely a hit.
NUMBER 1.
The Letter - Justin Burnett

In the book, Hardin writes a letter, but I think this was so cute, and beautiful, and perfect for the scene. I'd never heard of Justin Burnett before this film came out but I absolutely love this album, and it was ALL over the most listened to tracks of 2019, even though the film didn't come out in Netflix in the UK until around a year ago. I read all four books in just under 4 weeks, and even though they're not Pulitzer Prize winners or epic novels, they're enough to get you believing in love and certainly how it can change you. In the film, Hardin writes an essay, which the teacher believes is meant for Tessa... so I'm just going to leave them here: "I've read hundreds of novels in my life, most of them claiming that love was the centre of the universe, that it could heal any damage inside of us, that it was what we need to survive. From Darcy to Heathcliff I thought they were fools. That love was something fictional, only found in worn pages of a book. But that has all changed since I met my Elizabeth Bennett. I never thought I would find myself completely and utterly consumed by another until her. She took my hand and led me out of the darkness and showed me whatever our souls are made of, hers and mine are the same."

So that's it for this week. And more daily mixes to come methinks, as they do throw up some seriously good ones, as well as some throwbacks.

Stay tuned for next week!
